Drag and drop

Your grid layout is fully under your control: items stay exactly where you put them, and drag and drop is how you put them there.

Note

Press and hold a bookmark or folder for a brief moment before moving the mouse to start dragging it. This short delay is what lets a quick click still open the item instead of starting a drag.

Reorder within a folder

Drag any bookmark or folder to a new spot in the grid and drop it. The layout is saved immediately — there’s no separate “save” step.

Move items into a folder

Drag a bookmark (or a folder) and drop it onto a folder to move it inside. The item is placed in the first free spot in the target folder’s grid.

A folder can’t be moved into itself or into one of its own subfolders — BookMark Pro prevents that automatically.

Caution

Dropping directly on a folder normally moves the dragged item inside it. If you instead want to place the item before that folder in the grid, release it over the leftmost 20% of the folder’s tile — that narrow strip reorders the item next to the folder instead of moving it inside. Releasing anywhere else on the folder always moves the item into it; there’s no equivalent zone on the right edge.

BookMark Pro shows you which behavior will happen before you let go: a thin blue line on the left edge of the tile means the item will be placed next to it (reorder), while a blue outline around the whole tile means the item will be moved inside it. Watch for this indicator while dragging over a folder to be sure you’ll get the result you want.

Moving items out of a folder

To move an item up or elsewhere in the hierarchy, drag it onto a folder shown in the current grid, or navigate so the destination folder is visible and drop it there. Dissolving a folder entirely is also an option — see deleting a folder while keeping its contents.

On touch screens

On phones and tablets, use a long press to pick an item up, then drag it as usual. A short tap still opens the bookmark or folder.
